Conversation with an average Realtor about Upside Down Homes

I was in the office the other day and I noticed a real estate agent printing off a call list for what appeared to be FSBOs (For Sale By Owners). A conversation ensued that ended up in an odd place.

I see you’re calling FSBOs, good for you, you need to be proactive. – me

That’s right. I have to do something. – other agent

How many listings have you gotten? – me

None so far. – other agent

Really? What seems to be the problem? – me

Well, I’ve certainly made the calls and it’s been quite easy to get the meeting with the home owner. It’s not like it used to be, they almost WANT me to come over. – other agent

So…? – me

Well, most of them are upside down and some are upside down and behind. – other agent

Wow! Really, I love helping in that situation. What do YOU do with those people? – me

I tell them to have a nice day. – other agent

Don’t have a nice day! Contact us immediately. If I can’t help you personally, I know someone who can. You don’t have to face foreclosure.

Good message. I was one of those people until I learned about a short sale.
